Nine students of the Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT) have been taken into police custody by the Narsingi police on Friday. Arrested students are members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) who have been held for blocking the main gate of the college and creating mild tension.
Students of the institute have been protesting for the past few days against sudden fee hike by the college authorities from Rs 1.13 lakh to 2 lakh per annum.
The steep hike of Rs 86,500 was announced along with a circular which directed the students to pay the balance amount by December 15th. Protesting student union has claimed that it is illegal and unethical to increase the annual fee in the middle of the academic year.
