Keeping with the initiative stated in 2015, the Telangana government will distribute Christmas gifts to around two lakh people from economically poor backgrounds. One lakh poor Christians from the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad are expected to benefit from the hand-out.
The gift hampers will include sarees, cut cloth pieces for shits and trousers or a salwar suit. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will distribute the hampers on December 14. A dinner will also be hosted by the Chief Minister on December 18. The total expenditure on the scheme has been estimated at Rs 15 crores.
The CM has decided to celebrate Christmas as official state festival. His office will be hosting a grand dinner for prominent Christian families of Hyderabad on Christmas Eve.
